An investment project needs a partner. I invest in the project my assets (ideas, developments, experience, skills and time) in the amount of five hundred thousand euros. You invest in the project the same amount in the form of money. The idea is very simple — to make money by selling paintings. Interest rates are very high — from 500% to 10,000%. The risk of the project is moderate. I am willing to put in 12,000 to 15,000 hours of my time. According to the average rate of a drawing teacher per hour, this is about 500,000 euros. The partner invests the same amount in money. In recent years, auctions have awakened interest in classical painting. The demand is such that Sotheby’s gathers street artists to make copies of paintings by masters such as Bouguereau, Raphael and Titian for later sale. The cost of modern painting «ala prima» in the style of realism at Sotheby’s over the past 10 years has ranged from 38,000 to 130,000 dollars. Individual paintings were sold from 1.3 million to 12 million dollars.
My painting is an order of magnitude higher in quality, I work in a unique multilayer technique, and the cost of my work should be an average of 300-500 thousand dollars. Individual canvases of large format may well reach prices of several tens of millions. Even if we take the lowest price of 50 thousand dollars on average, a collection of forty paintings will cost at least 2 million euros, which will fully cover the costs and allow each of the participants to earn 100% of the profit. If sales reach the settlement price, the profit will be from 5 million. up to 20 million euros. My works are unique, with an original plot. Auctions will compete for the right to sell this painting. And one more thing — in any case, we will become the creators of a unique collection of paintings, such a grandiose work will not go unnoticed by descendants.
So: The size of the investment is about one million euros. Three hundred thousand is risk capital. Two hundred thousand is a contribution to real estate, which is returned after the implementation of the project. Plus 12,000 to 18,000 hours of work time on the other hand, at a cost of four hundred and thirty-two thousand to six hundred and forty-eight thousand. In total, about a million euros. The investment period is five years. Estimated profit three to five million euros. The main purpose of the investment is to get the maximum profit from the sale of works of art through the Sotheby’s auction (or similar). The main task of the investment group is to provide the necessary conditions for creating a collection of paintings for subsequent sale through an auction. Investment money does not stay in my pocket. Money is spent on business. They provide the opportunity to create a unique collection of «Flemish» painting and the possibility of its promotion and implementation. I, just like the investor, want to return the value of the several thousand hours of my time that I put into the project from my side.
Action plan. Finding a suitable place to live and work. It takes about 200 m2 with one spacious room ten by eight meters with a ceiling height of at least three and a half meters. There is also a place for storing and drying paintings, for a photo studio and a place for a carpentry shop. It is ideal to buy an old farm or a large warm hangar for the duration of the project. The cost of renting such premises for five years will be comparable to the purchase price of the same premises. After the completion of the project, the property can be sold and the money returned. The risk of losing money in this case is minimal. The implementation time for this item is one month. 2. Preparation of canvases and purchase of materials. Implementation period is one month. 3. Work to create works of art. Canvases will be written in series. In the first series, works will be written for participation in the ARC International Salon Competition. Placement of the application from March 1 to June 30. Also three works for the competition of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. Application times will be announced later. Implementation time — from the beginning of the project to the submission of the application. Participation in competitions is necessary for promotion and entry into the Sotheby’s auction. 4. In the second series there will be historical canvases of a large size, approximately three by five meters. Two or three papers that will be written during the entire project. The implementation time is four years.
5. In the third series of paintings there will be socially significant works. Approximately one and a half by three meters in the amount of seven to ten pieces. The same number will be written for advertising and exhibition purposes. 6. The fourth painting series will feature romantic scenes and light nudes. Ten to twenty works. Provided there is time for this. To sum up: in five years, two large works, fifteen medium-sized works, a dozen portraits and ten to twenty small staged works will be painted. There are about forty works in total. Eight paintings a year. Considering that it takes six to twelve months to paint a single painting in a multi-layered technique, this implies a very high pace of work, which can be ensured by the in-line method, having sufficient areas for work. Forty works in the Flemish style is a solid collection that guarantees a return on investment.
The group is supposed to have two participants, two shares of fifty to fifty percent. Participant number one invests his main asset — time (in monetary terms, 82944 euros per year, about four hundred thousand over five years). Participant number two invests the same amount in money. Participant number one uses skills and knowledge that can hardly be overestimated, participant number two provides premises for work and living. There may be more participants, in which case the second share is divided between them according to the contribution. The contribution of the first participant remains unchanged, at the rate of 400 thousand over five years. The second half of the contribution in the amount of the same amount is divided among the other participants. For example, ten people invest forty thousand each, which significantly reduces the risks for them. Refunds are made in the following order. After the sale, the money of the investor (investors) is returned first. Then the costs of the contractor are compensated. Then the remaining profit is distributed among the participants in accordance with their shares in the project.
